Affordable housing shared in single-family homes has become increasingly important as mental health services are cut. Discharges from Western State Hospital and the loss of supervised living beds have put much more pressure on community housing to accommodate these displaced people. Seattle Mental Health (SMH) provides substantial support services within the homes of the tenants on D Street that enables them to live successfully in the community.
