Tall Firs
Mini-Farm is a 2-½ acre
parcel located on the East Hill in Kent,
owned and operated by the Mental
Health Housing Foundation since
1994. There is a 6-bedroom home
on the property that has been very
successful in providing an affordable
home for 6 mentally ill adults. All
residents have income less than 30%
of the median income in King County;
rents are established on a sliding scale.
It is required that all residents remain
engaged in their mental health
treatment programs, and they receive
frequent on site case management
support services from Sound Mental
Health.

Future Plans for Tall Firs
Mental Health Housing Foundation is proposing to expand the
supply of affordable housing for very low-income people with serious and
persistent mental illness. It is planning to build four 3-bedroom homes and two
4-bedroom home and one 5-bedroom home on this property, housing a total of 25
new people on the site. The population being targeted for these homes includes
those being discharged from licensed residential care facilities, those not
adapting to more independent community settings, those living with aging parents
who can no longer support them, and the homeless mentally ill. The existing
home will remain and continue to provide affordable housing for its 6 residents.
Fact: Mental illnesses can affect persons of any age, race, religion, or
income. Mental illnesses are not the result of personal weakness, lack of
character, or poor upbringing.
