Mental Health Housing Foundation
property at Liberty Lake Condominium
consists of five 1-bedroom units and
five 2-bedroom units scattered
throughout a 150 unit condominium
complex.
MHHF
units at Liberty Lake house two
types of tenants: low-income households
enrolled in the public mental health system,
and households who were renting from the
original owners prior to the purchase by
MHHF. In accordance with our approved
plan these original tenants will be replaced with mental health tenants as each
original tenant voluntarily leaves. Mental health tenants pay sliding scale
rent; non-mental health tenants pay market rate rent, not to exceed 30% of
their gross household income, but no less than the rent they paid at the time
MHHF purchased the property.
Three of the original tenants are continuing as tenants under MHHF ownership.
While these people are not part of our target mental health population, they are
low income and are benefiting from what has become for them lower than market
rate housing.

Fact: Mental disorders are
the leading cause of disability (lost years of productive life) in North
America, Europe and, increasingly, in the world. By 2020, Major Depressive
illness will be the leading cause of disability in the world for women and
children.
