those enrolled in
the publicly funded
mental health system and served by
Sound Mental Health.
This will not
be a treatment facility, but the residents
will receive home
visits along with the
case management and psychiatric
support services that are
so necessary
to maintaining their stability in the
community. These are the
same services
that are provided to anyone enrolled in
the King County mental
health system
regardless of where they live.
This project has been in pre-development for quite some
time. The wetlands have been surveyed and the City of Kent has now certified
our wetland boundary. Architects and engineers working with the City Planning
Department have devised a subdivision plan, and the short plat application is
about to be approved. The project will be consistent with all existing zoning
and land use rules.

The topography of
the site provides a rockery to the South along 269th St, wetlands to
the east, and a number of large Douglas Fir trees bordering 108th Ave
SE to the west. The 2-˝ acre property to the North remains undeveloped with a
single family home. A perimeter fence will be constructed. These features will
assure privacy for the residents and help minimize the project’s perceived
impact on the surrounding neighborhood. While each cottage will have its own
defined lot, landscaping will be designed to create common areas and walking
trails throughout. Residents will be able to enjoy the amenities of the site
that will be retained, such as the koi pond and re-circulating stream, and a
Japanese garden with lush landscaping and an outdoor barbecue area.

Fact: Mental disorders fall along a continuum of
severity. The most serious and disabling conditions affect five to ten million
adults (2.6 – 5.4%) and three to five million children ages five to seventeen (5
